1 – Energy Bar

Back in 2015 in California I was buying LÄRABAR, Fruit & Nut Bar, at the local health shop after a SoulCycle or Pilates class.
These absolutely delicious bars are both vegan and gluten free with no added sugar or flavours and are made with only a few, recognizable ingredients – not some dodgy things you have to Google in order to understand them. 🙂

I was so happy when a few months ago they finally launched in UK!

At their launch event I had the pleausure to meet the founder Lara, where she shared her journey from when she decided to make her own bars back in 2000 to today, where million of LÄRABARs are sold every year.

At the moment you can only find 3 flavours in UK: banana & choc chip, apple cinnamon and my favourite peanut butter choc chip. Cookie dough flavour is not available yet, fingers crossed they will decide to bring it overseas. 🙂

2 – Energy drink

I tried to swap coffee for the energy drink Flyte for a few days. Each bottle is under 40 calories and is full of radical natural active ingredients including Organic Caffeine, Maca Root and Schizandra.
Free from added sugar, artificial sweeteners – they use Stevia – and from other nasty ingredients like other beverages in the market.
Coffee has its own appeal, especially in the morning so I wouldn’t stop drinking it, but in the afternoon I really appreciate Flyte, as it gave me a kick of energy without the usual “crash” you get with other energy drinks, and sorry to say this, but even with coffee.
Favourite flavour: Green Mango

3 – Link Nutrition – Beauty

FACT: starting from the age of 21 female skin loses 7% of its thickness every ten years due to declining levels of collagen in the skin.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and is the major component of connective tissues that make up several body parts.

Collagen also has many important functions, including providing your skin with structure and strengthening your bones.

In recent years, collagen supplements have become popular and I tried many of them, both in “pure” form or with other nutrients and I find Link Nutrition – Beauty to be a very good balance between price and results.

These capsules are a blend of vitamins and minerals proven to help in the maintenance of healthy hair, skin and nails and after a month I have seen a visible improvement in the strength of my nails.
N.b. Skin and hair improvements will take at least 3 months to be visible, I am not in the position to give you a feedback right now.

4 – Non-dairy milk

As you might know I can’t have dairy products but I love cappuccino and over the years I tried many brands of non-dairy milk.

At the London Coffee Festival I tried not only new coffee brands, teas and snacks but also different milk alternatives and Oatly is simply the best in town.
If you want a perfect foam in your cappuccino just grab their Oat Drink Barista Edition and no one will spot the difference between yours and the one made by a barista.
TIP: if you don’t like oat and you prefer almond or coconut, keep in mind that plant-based proteins may react to coffees with high-acidity and will cause splitting and curdling in the cup. To help prevent this use a more developed roasted coffee instead of a lighter one.
P.s. another article about coffee shops in London is coming soon and contains a few gems. 🙂

5 – Olive Oil

An oil could be healthy?
Absolutely yes, especially extra virgin olive oil when you choose a good brand that provides you quality and control.
I am always happy to support Italian local producers that work hard and create great quality products.

Olio Guglielmi has produced extra virgin olive oil in Apulia for over 60 years, keeping firm the roots of Apulia’s oil culture thanks to technological innovation.

Their extra virgin olive oil is a result of a series of tests, actions and objectives.

I met Olio Guglielmi a few months ago and I tried one of their Monocultivars a cold extracted extra virgin olive oil, milled within 2 hours of the harvest.

Out of the three Monocultivars produced by Olio Guglielmi, I tried the “Peranzana”: a premium quality olive oil that won many awards and is known to be very versatile and used in different dishes.
TIP: it tasted great on my salmon and avocado ceviche recipe below. 🙂
